Joanna Bagniewska

Dr Joanna Bagniewska is a Departmental Lecturer in Environmental Sciences at Oxford Lifelong Learning, and Co-Director of the Postgraduate Certificate in Ecological Survey Techniques. Her academic interests include conservation biology, urban ecology and citizen science, in particular looking at connectivity of urban green spaces and enhancing public engagement with nature. Since 2017, Joanna has been co-running the Oxfordshire Mammal Group; she is also a committee member of British Ecological Society’s Teaching and Learning Group.

Joanna also works as a freelance science communicator and communications coach; she is the author of The Modern Bestiary (Wildfire, 2022), co-author of The Communicating Scientist: A Practical Handbook (Springer Nature, 2025), and a contributor to the children’s book Life: The Wild Wonders of Biodiversity (Thames&Hudson, 2025).
