The Finnish government have introduced a new voluntary biodiversity offsetting policy after years of policy development. The BOOST consortium, funded by the Strategic Research Council, has invited this stress test of the policy based on scientific evidence of the effectiveness and functioning of biodiversity offsetting policies from around the world. Here I summarise strengths and risks to the policy based on international experiences.
