Examining worldwide influences on rewilding, in Britain and beyond, to clarify broader environmental transformations

“British Rewilding in a Global Frame” looks at how rewilding projects in Britain—especially the large estates often used for rewilding—are connected to global histories, not just local ones.

People often think of rewilding as something rooted in local landscapes and communities, but this project argues that many of these large estates only exist because of broader global forces and histories (for example: colonial wealth, land ownership patterns, or international economic links).

By exploring these global connections, the project aims to highlight the deeper causes of environmental change in Britain. It also encourages us to think about whether these global histories create responsibilities today—and if so, what kinds of responses might be appropriate.
