We are delighted to congratulate Professor Yadvinder Malhi, Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery, on being recognised in the academic category in the ENDS Power List 2026, which recognises the UK’s most influential and impactful environmental professionals. The annual list celebrates individuals who have made a significant contribution to environmental science, policy and practice over the past two years.
Yadvinder commented: I am grateful to be recognised on this list, alongside a wonderful array of practitioners, researchers and activists striving to repair our relationship with the rest of the living world, a relationship essential for our collective flourishing.
A Professor of Ecosystem Science in the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford, Yadvinder is internationally recognised for his pioneering research on global ecosystems and nature recovery. His work has transformed our understanding of ecological change across Asia, Africa and South America, while more recent research has focused on supporting nature recovery in the UK.
Alongside his academic achievements, Yadvinder has played a leading role in shaping environmental policy and practice, advising successive governments on ecology-related issues and championing evidence-based approaches to addressing biodiversity loss and climate change.
His leadership extends across the ecological community. He served as President of the British Ecological Society from 2022 to 2024 and continues to contribute to the Society’s work, including efforts to advance equity and inclusion within ecology. He is also a Trustee of the Natural History Museum, London, and a Fellow of the Royal Society.
In 2025, Yadvinder was awarded the Ramon Margalef Prize in Ecology, one of the world’s most prestigious honours in ecological science. The award recognised both his groundbreaking research and his longstanding commitment to fostering a more equitable global research community, including support for researchers across the Global South through collaborative and inclusive approaches.
Yadvinder’s inclusion in the ENDS Power List 2026 is a fitting recognition of his scientific leadership, his commitment to nature recovery, and his dedication to building a more inclusive and globally connected environmental community. We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved achievement and the extraordinary impact of his work.
