Researchers from the University of Oxford and KNUST explored how residents across eight Kumasi communities value urban nature and the benefits it provides.
Residents highlighted diverse contributions to wellbeing, including shade and climate protection, food and medicine, spaces for relaxation and social connection, cultural identity, learning and spiritual wellbeing. The findings demonstrate that even small areas of everyday nature can provide multiple benefits, while highlighting the importance of protecting and expanding green spaces within neighbourhoods.
